Syzterhood

Hello!
From the Greater Boston Area.
From Starlit.

Well here it is: my redemption blog entry! I apologize ahead of time if it is too colloquial, but it’s Spring Break and if formal writing structure could pause for anything, it should be vacations!

On this year’s Valentine’s Day, love was certainly in the air, rocking out to the tunes of sweet Syzterhood.  That’s right, folks, a Sister event! This year we had a Secret Sigma Valentine (props to Nouvella for suggesting the idea at Chapter), where sisters were given the task of giving a randomly assigned sister a card and/or chocolate (and/or other goodies…)

The results were awesome!

From Andante to me!
[Oh how she gets me ;)]
From Misaki to Cavatina

The thoughtfulness and time spent on each gift brought smiles and sparked sisterly love. What more can someone ask for?

 (Not that much more)

The gifts also provided a chance for Sigma love to gain some stage presence and rekindle everyone’s spirit…

…to do another Sister Bonding Event! The Sister Dress-Alike Event! In preparation for style-swapping Sisters were paired and had mini Q&A sessions together beforehand. At the chapter following, Sisters showed up, a little unlike their usual selves. Except for Aranea, who still owes us a stylistic interpretation of ebullience. Some notable swaps are seen here:

Comet and Misaki
(It should be noted that these two not only swapped styles, but walks
-- these two entered chapter with entirely different swaggers)

To top off the charm of the evening, the Iotas were thrilled to find a gift from Influence, yellow roses!

Thank you Influence, they are as awesome and beautiful as you!
We loved them so much, so we took them to a Chi Phi Speaker event: Ise Lyfe (Is Everyone Stupid?).

As February ended, a new event was drafted. With the combined powers of Publicity and Sisterhood, an event like no other, and named like no other, was created: Publisterhood. Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly (depending on your personal taste in names) enough, the event yielded results far better than the sound of its name. On March 2nd, after Chapter, Sisters sat down with scissors, felt, glitter, and glue and created an unparalleled beauty.

Personally, I think the most appropriate way to illustrate the details of Publisterhood is through a poem.

The Epic of Publisterhood
By Starlit

For March the Second, the voices of publicity beckoned
to me, to see another event to inspire unity
And so they suggested, an idea uncontested
the creation of a chapter banner. "Sounds good!" I opened my planner.

With felt and pens we traced letters of Times New Roman
(What could this possibly spell?)

However our energy felt drained from school
Yes, even our strength as young women,
(Poor Allegro :\)

But we found ways to stay cool:
(perhaps too cool, right Andante?)
And ways to have fun and play
Even after a long and tiring day:
(I think she's forgiven me by now...)
So we continued to snip, and glue
And oh the teamwork that ensued!
(Revelation, Nouvella, and Cavatina in mid banner-assembly)

So great was the sight, I thought my eyes glittered
With the endless possibilities of teamwork, 'oh, the hope!'
But then I realized it was probably from the glitter
"Still cool," I thought, "it will probably make the banner more 'dope'"
(Allegro, Miki, and Vitalia in mid banner-assembly)

With glitter amounts further refined
And a promising image coming to mind
A final piece was being designed!
A yellow rose, for sure
A symbol for all to adore
And need I say anymore?

Finally, with everything adhered
The banner's epic tale concluded, dears.

And of course for something with looks so terrific
We took time to take a large number of pics

Sorority Soliloquy

I’ve heard it said a sorority
Is a waste of time; but I know better…
For I have seen the love and walked
In the splendor of sisterhood…
I’ve heard it said that a sorority
Is sad; I can’t agree…
I’ve heard it said that a sorority
Is a dull, selfish place;
It can’t be true…
I’ve seen the affection, watched it
Fill my heart, the very air…
And I have learned the Creed
Polished and spotless from end to end
And I’ve watched the sorority’s
Devotion drape each and every active
And pledge to look like nature’s
Freshly-granted love nourished for growth…
I’ve heard it said that a sorority is
Harmful, but they are wrong…
For I know my sisters…watched them
Strive to save a cause, spend of themselves…
And I’ve watched them hope, dream,
And aspire, side by side…
I’ve heard them say these things,
But I would disagree…
Because for every shadow
I have Seen a hundred rays of light…
For every plaintive note I’ve Heard the symphony of joy…
For every penny-weight of bad, I’ve found a ton of good…
Good in nature, in people, in my sorority…
I’m thankful I belong.

Sigmalicious Socials

Iota Sigmas have been working very hard since the semester started in preparation for Spring Rush and many other exciting events that are awaiting us in the future. However, in the midst of our busy schedules, we never forget to have fun with various social events that helped us relax and gave us a chance to get to know other organizations better.

Our semester began with mixers with the brothers of Pi Delta Psi at their house. We got a chance to catch up and met their rushees along with some of their alumni that we don't see very often. It was also a chance to show off our newest addition to the sisterhood - Morgan"Aquilina" Presiozi and Victoria "Reaper" Pietruska. We also came supported UR PDPsi's "Back-to-school Party", "China Nite After Party" and RIT's PDPsi's "Throw back the 90s Party". It was quite entertaining to dress up in 90s outfits (even though no one agreed that our outfits looked like they were from the 90s). Wincheng and Jeanette were quite amused at the theme. Regardless, we danced the night away with our favorite from the 90s such as "Oops I did it again" or "Bye Bye Bye".

We also attended  "China NIte" this year to support Moxi Zhou "Comet" - VP for CSA this year. Soyoun Kim "Miki" played the part of one of the heroes in the skit (and she was adorable) who fought along with another hero played by David Wu from Pi Delta Psi. Great job to all the sisters who participated in other dances in China Nite: Yichen Qiu "Misaki", Wai Ling Ye "Revelation" and Susana Ho "Ebullience". It was a great show, as always!

Next on the list was a mixer with Sigma Beta Rho, which we chose "Pairs" as our theme for the night. Each sister was paired up with a SigRho brother and each pair was supposed to communicate with each other to come up with a creative idea to dress up as. Each pair went as a team to participate in the Beer Pong Olympics. We were planning on kicking off the night with some fun time at the ice skating rink. Unfortunately, due to some technical difficulty, that didn't happen. Some of us were really sad that we did not get a chance to bond over some ice-breaking activities, as well as to show off our awesome costumes in public. However, we had a great time having dinner with each other in Danforth. It was quite an entertaining time for everyone in Danforth to see Snoopy (Soyoun) and Woodstock (Wai Ling), Barbie (Susana) and Ken (Kotei), and Alice (Trissha) and the Mad Hatter (Bonsu) waiting in line for food. Pacman (Justin) and Ghost (Kathy) were the champion of the tournament while Tampon (Morgan) and Period (Jamie) were unofficially voted as "Best Costume". We ended the night with Susana Ho "Ebullience" birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Susana! We hoped you had an awesome time!

Cheer to a great time spending with friends and sisters!
Last weekend, we stepped out of our comfort zone a little bit and attended a mixer with Sigma Chi. Our theme this time was Nickelodeon characters. This was a busy weekend for everyone since we had many things going on and midterms are also coming. Regardless, sisters had fun taking their Saturday night off to dress up and come out for some socialization. It was quite a challenge since SigChi had way more brothers than we do, but we made tons of new friends and that is always a good thing!

Next weekend, we will have a mixer with RIT's Lambda Alpha Upsilon to celebrate the end of RIT's finals weeks and the beginning of our Spring break! Nothing can be better than starting off your spring break with a blast and new friends.

We are all looking forward to coming back from Spring break with more mixers and social events waiting for us, such as a dinner with the lovely sisters of Delta Phi Omega or a mixed cultural/social event with the girls of Phi Sigma Sigma.

It is definitely a very busy social schedule for us this semester. Thank you all the sisters for taking time off your busy schedules and spending your weekends on Sigma! Thank you Forte and Vitalia for all the pictures :) Morgan and I will try our best in the future to make sure that you ladies all have great times at social events and that you will be able to relax and take your minds off other stressful things.
