Sigmalicious Socials

Iota Sigmas have been working very hard since the semester started in preparation for Spring Rush and many other exciting events that are awaiting us in the future. However, in the midst of our busy schedules, we never forget to have fun with various social events that helped us relax and gave us a chance to get to know other organizations better.

Our semester began with mixers with the brothers of Pi Delta Psi at their house. We got a chance to catch up and met their rushees along with some of their alumni that we don't see very often. It was also a chance to show off our newest addition to the sisterhood - Morgan"Aquilina" Presiozi and Victoria "Reaper" Pietruska. We also came supported UR PDPsi's "Back-to-school Party", "China Nite After Party" and RIT's PDPsi's "Throw back the 90s Party". It was quite entertaining to dress up in 90s outfits (even though no one agreed that our outfits looked like they were from the 90s). Wincheng and Jeanette were quite amused at the theme. Regardless, we danced the night away with our favorite from the 90s such as "Oops I did it again" or "Bye Bye Bye".

We also attended  "China NIte" this year to support Moxi Zhou "Comet" - VP for CSA this year. Soyoun Kim "Miki" played the part of one of the heroes in the skit (and she was adorable) who fought along with another hero played by David Wu from Pi Delta Psi. Great job to all the sisters who participated in other dances in China Nite: Yichen Qiu "Misaki", Wai Ling Ye "Revelation" and Susana Ho "Ebullience". It was a great show, as always!

Next on the list was a mixer with Sigma Beta Rho, which we chose "Pairs" as our theme for the night. Each sister was paired up with a SigRho brother and each pair was supposed to communicate with each other to come up with a creative idea to dress up as. Each pair went as a team to participate in the Beer Pong Olympics. We were planning on kicking off the night with some fun time at the ice skating rink. Unfortunately, due to some technical difficulty, that didn't happen. Some of us were really sad that we did not get a chance to bond over some ice-breaking activities, as well as to show off our awesome costumes in public. However, we had a great time having dinner with each other in Danforth. It was quite an entertaining time for everyone in Danforth to see Snoopy (Soyoun) and Woodstock (Wai Ling), Barbie (Susana) and Ken (Kotei), and Alice (Trissha) and the Mad Hatter (Bonsu) waiting in line for food. Pacman (Justin) and Ghost (Kathy) were the champion of the tournament while Tampon (Morgan) and Period (Jamie) were unofficially voted as "Best Costume". We ended the night with Susana Ho "Ebullience" birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Susana! We hoped you had an awesome time!

Cheer to a great time spending with friends and sisters!
Last weekend, we stepped out of our comfort zone a little bit and attended a mixer with Sigma Chi. Our theme this time was Nickelodeon characters. This was a busy weekend for everyone since we had many things going on and midterms are also coming. Regardless, sisters had fun taking their Saturday night off to dress up and come out for some socialization. It was quite a challenge since SigChi had way more brothers than we do, but we made tons of new friends and that is always a good thing!

Next weekend, we will have a mixer with RIT's Lambda Alpha Upsilon to celebrate the end of RIT's finals weeks and the beginning of our Spring break! Nothing can be better than starting off your spring break with a blast and new friends.

We are all looking forward to coming back from Spring break with more mixers and social events waiting for us, such as a dinner with the lovely sisters of Delta Phi Omega or a mixed cultural/social event with the girls of Phi Sigma Sigma.

It is definitely a very busy social schedule for us this semester. Thank you all the sisters for taking time off your busy schedules and spending your weekends on Sigma! Thank you Forte and Vitalia for all the pictures :) Morgan and I will try our best in the future to make sure that you ladies all have great times at social events and that you will be able to relax and take your minds off other stressful things.

Drinks in Paradise - Spring RUSH 2012

Iota Chapter kicked off official Spring 2012 Rush with our traditional Bubble Tea event. This semester, we called it Drinks in Paradise to go along with our paradise and beaches theme. We met a lot of new people and made some new friends while enjoying seven different flavors of bubble tea!

Our Surf & Turf event with the brothers of UR & RIT PDPsi was a huge success. A lot of students came out to Tiernan Lounge to learn how to roll their own sushi, eat all that sushi, and hang out with the brothers and sisters. There were so many people, we ran out of food at the end! A number of people even tried sushi for the first time, including our very own Aquilina! (By the way, she loved it!)

Morgan's first time eating sushi :)

So crowded!

We ran out of food so we ended up just eating rice and carrots ....

Our Tiki-Hut Mixer with the brothers of Sigma Beta Rho was a blast! We enjoyed some delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows and topped that off with some ice-cream! Sisters found their SigRho number twins and look lots of pictures with them too!

Our community service rush event, Beachside Bracelets, was a great way to show off our artistic skills and also support our philanthopy. We made some nice bracelets to donate to Alternatives for Battered Women (ABW). The bracelets had words of encouragement like hope, strength, love, etc. Hopefully they can brighten someone's day!

Great job to Victoria "Reaper" and Thanh "Cavatina" for giving an awesome presentation for our rushes at the GIM. After going through the powerpoint and the rush video, we played a fun ice-breaker that had everyone leaving in smiles. :)

The rushes and even sisters benefitted from our educational rush event as they learned how to fix up their resumes and write effective cover letters so that they could land a great internship or job that would help them Retire by the Beach someday. Morgan gave the awesome presentation using the tools and training she gained from being a Peer Counselor at the Career Center.

For our last rush event of the semester Tropical T-shirts, we had a pleasant visit from the Mu Charter sisters and their rushes. The girls tye-dyed awesome shirts to take home with them. Thanks Mu syzters for visiting! We love spending time with you!

Awwww! Sisters love <3

Thanks Iotas for another great rush season!

Special thanks to the rush committee: Trissha "Nouvella" & Jessica "Firefox"!!!

Sigma's Sweet Sixteen in Seattle

This year, our national convention was held in Seattle, WA, the first west-coast convention. Rho Chapter hosted an amazing convention with line syzter dinners, to an amazing cruise party and a fantastic gala. We met a lot of different sisters, and finally got a chance to meet sisters on the West Coast!

Some other highlights of this trip??

  • We sold out of the super cute shirts that Rena designed!
  • We won our first ever Psi Sistership Award!
  • 3 Iota sisters are now on National EBOD!
  • While taking a national group picture after the workshops, meetings, and elections, a bride and groom decided to jump into our picture and take a few pictures of their own! It was a little weird, but really fun and interesting =)
  • seeing the famous fish-throwing, singing people who sell fish, and buying some really amazing smoked salmon from them

Congratulations to our entire chapter for getting a Psi Sistership Award for distinguished Achievements in Integrity!!! And congratulations to Stephanie “Thalia” Liu and Camille “Nocturne” Enriquez on becoming the new Chapter Directors and Alice “Vitalia” Wu on becoming the new Speaker of the Council on EBOD 2010-2011!!

It’s been a great year for us, and we’re definitely headed towards becoming even stronger and closer than we already are.

Our Rho host, Nancy “adinah” Ho, was incredible and very helpful. We owe her a special thank you for everything that she’s done for us this weekend. It was an amazing weekend, and this convention really set the bar for future conventions.

Here’s some pictures of this weekend. =)

Congratulations Iota Chapter!

the award + letter from the review board

Congratulations to Iota Chapter for winning the "Expectations in Excellence in Strategic Planning" award at the Fraternity and Sorority Achievement Reception today! This is one of the few top awards given out to Greek organizations and makes it the fourth year in the row that we have received honorable recognition by the University and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA). What was once considered a small MGC organization that seemed to stand no chance against the large Greek organizations on campus, is now growing to be one of the most influential Greek organizations on our campus. I'm so proud of all the SYZters who have dedicated so much time and effort into getting Sigma Psi Zeta to where it is now. We've come a long way & let's hope we continue this legacy! <3Crisis
